A City Full of Systems Reaching the Same Age

Surprise grew from about 31,000 people in 2000 to more than 117,000 by 2010. Most of the homes in the city were built in that one decade, which means most of their air conditioners were installed in the same few years and are wearing out together. AC installation in Surprise is often a planned replacement of a first system that has done 15 to 20 summers.

Why Those First Systems Are Due

  • Age. Equipment from the 2000s has carried a lot of Arizona heat. A compressor or coil failure at this age is usually a replacement decision.
  • Refrigerant. Systems installed before 2010 often run R-22, which has not been produced since January 1, 2020.
  • Builder sizing. Production builders often sized systems quickly. A load calculation now may show a different size fits the house better.

HOA and Placement

Many Surprise neighborhoods are master-planned communities with homeowners associations. If the new condenser goes in the same spot and is the same general size, that is usually straightforward. If you want to move it or change how it is screened, check your HOA’s architectural review rules first, and we will give you the equipment details they ask for.

How We Install

We start with a load calculation and a look at the ducts, electrical and drain. New split air conditioners must meet the Southwest regional minimum of 14.3 SEER2, and equipment built since 2025 uses A2L refrigerants such as R-454B. We install Carrier equipment, set the charge and airflow at startup and leave the area clean. Every unit we install includes three years of maintenance in the price.

Surprise Permits

A changeout is permitted work. The City of Surprise handles permits and inspections through its Community Development office at 16000 N. Civic Center Plaza, and we pull the permit and schedule the inspection as part of the job.

Common Questions

Should I replace the indoor unit too?

Usually yes. A new outdoor unit needs a matched indoor coil and the right refrigerant to perform to its rating and keep its warranty.

Do you install two-system homes?

Yes. Larger floor plans sometimes use two systems, and we size and quote each one for the area it serves.
